Mauritius weather typically tropical climate; heat remains at high levels throughout the year, although thanks to the influence of southeast trade winds it neither gets too muggy and nor does it reach extreme proportion. Mauritius weather can be divided into two seasons, whose patterns are so similar they are almost identical! It is however this little marked variation between seasons that helps weather in Mauritius to retain its welcoming disposition throughout the year, effectively making the little island of the south Indian Ocean a popular holiday destination.

Mauritius weather in summers last between December to April; temperatures hover around 27° C (80° F) on the Coast and 23° C (73° F) on the Central Plateau. During the same season, humidity reaches its peak, although thanks to the constant sea breezes, it never reaches unbearable proportions. Between January and March, Mauritius is occasionally visited by cyclones. Unlike other areas in the region, their severity is somewhat subdued although they tend to carry a lot of heavy showers in their tails.

Although Mauritius weather is certainly welcoming during all parts of the year, the best time to visit the island coincides with the winter season. Commencing in April and running through November, winter in Mauritius is characterised by a slight drop in temperature and precipitation.

Sea temperatures vary between 75°F (24°C) in the winter and 82°F (28°C) in the summer and the country’s highlands are the wettest part of the country, experiencing rain at any given time of the year. Even on the occasions when rain kindly takes a backwards step, low-lying clouds dominate Mauritius’ skyline.
